CaNaCrete, or how insulation can also be beautiful
Traditionally, hemp, lime, additives and water are delivered separately to the job site to be mixed on site in a forcing mixer. This wet mixture is poured behind a sliding formwork and manually dammed. CaNaCrete is the pre-mixed version of traditional hemp. It no longer requires mixing on site, resulting in significant savings in time and labor. To prevent curing and drying out, CaNaCrete should be processed within 10 days of delivery.
CaNaCrete comes into its own in projects where aesthetics play an important role. The hemplime does not need to be finished with plaster so that the stratification of the hemplime remains visible. CaNaCrete is used as both interior and exterior wall insulation. If applied outdoors, a finishing coat will need to be applied that protects the hemplime from driving rain. If the CaNaCrete is used to insulate the walls on the inside, one can opt to apply no further finishing coat.
In addition, CaNaCrete offers a number of advantages that traditional insulation materials do not;
- Exceptional moisture control: relative humidity in the home is regulated at an average of 55%. This is ideal for human health and also ensures a building that lasts a long time. The material provides additional protection for the structural wood which is invaluable in preventing water-related problems such as leaks and moisture damage to buildings.
- Acoustic insulation: its sound-damping and absorption properties are so great that it is even used in music studios.
- hemplime captures CO2 during the growth of the hemp but also during the carbonation process of the lime. Throughout its lifetime, the product stores more CO2 than it releases.
- Safe and healthy: no harmful substances are released during cultivation, processing or installation of the product. Insulate with care for people, buildings and the environment.
