Floriade Expo 2022
100% biobased & local
"The Voice of Urban Nature" was an integrated pavilion, garden and exhibition designed by Overtreders W, de Onkruidenier, Joost Emmerik and Kossmanndejong for Almere and Amsterdam. The project showed how people and nature could reinforce each other, with a 100% local, bio-based and demountable design at its core.
The pavilion was constructed of wooden modules with hemplime and other locally sourced materials: hemp lime from Almere, madder pigment from Brabant, regional and reclaimed wood, and linseed oil coating from oil flax from the Schiphol region. This closed local cycles and strengthened ecosystems and economy.
After the Expo, the pavilion was repurposed in both cities and used for another 15 years; all parts were biodegradable. It served as an inspiring example of sustainable building in an urban context.
